They have an opinion that directly elevates one portion of society above another, giving priveliges to the majority, and denying the minority. It's called segregation, and denial of rights. Up until about 40 years ago, black and whites couldn't marry, until it was reversed by Americans with a strong sense of justice and a fundamental respect for the rights of all fellow humans. Now two men (or women) cannot marry, in a land that prides itself on its freedom. It's tragic.

Someone gave me this same argument earlier today. I'm sorry but you simply do not have the right to second class other citizens, no matter the popular belief.

Its a matter of definitions. THe definition for marriage now is a union between a man and wife. For gays its a domestic partnership. Of course then you could argue that there is no reason why you can't change the definition. But then gay marriage would be illegal. So calling it a domestic partnership makes a giant loophole in the law.

Its a matter of second classing citizens. A definition, is often, not very define.
