Title: Baccano!
Post by: Anima Sage Erk on December 29, 2009, 11:36:47 am
In a similair vein to my last topic, has anyone seen Baccano!? Along with TTGL, Cowboy Bebop, and FMA, this is one of my very favorites. The boxset came out today, and now I'm totally going to have to order it.

So yeah. Discussion, anyone? Characters and the like?

I've heard of Baccano!. And I've heard it's pretty good. But I've yet to see it. T_T

Oh my, its amazing. I've watched it twice now, once on ANN and once after I got the boxset.

Do note though, that the violence is by far the worst I've seen in any anime. If seeing bones still attached to a human while he's still alive, or a man being beat to death with nothing but fists, or a small child get shotgunned in the forehead, then by all means, don't watch it.

... Lol, is it weird if that makes it more compelling to watch? O_o

Honestly, I don't think I could be any more weirded out after reading Jiraishin and Boys Next Door. .... Both of which I don't recommend reading if you can't stand willing violence and graphic sex?

Oh, hearing about stuff like that usually intrigues me, so I probably shouldn't cast judgment upon you, should I?

Boys Next Door...sounds like yaoi, which I avoid like the plague.

Oh, I love Ryohgo Narita and his awesome light novels!

Lol, how could you guess that Boys Next Door was yaoi?
It's more sad and violent than about sex or stuff though. >.>

What's Baccano! about?

Ummm, gee, I dunno.

So in the early 18th century, a group of alchemists aboard the Advenna Avis succeeded in brewing the elixir of immortality. They decided to not tell anyone about it.

So the actual story of Baccano is split into three arcs, the 1930, 1931, and 1932 arcs. They're named after the name of the light novel each are based after, but I can't remember all of them.

The 1930 arc follows Firo Prochainezo, a young member of the cammora at the age of 19, who has been selected as a capo, and when he gets caught up in a grudge between two of the original immortals from the Advenna Avis, one of whom is like is big brother, and his closest friend, and the other of whom wants to kill said friend.

The 1931 arc follows the events on the Transcontinental Flying Pussyfoot, a train, and the attacks on it by several different factions, include the Russo family's Ladd Russo and his companions, who just want to kill everyone on board, a terrorist organization trying to become immortal, and several other people who are trying to prevent any innocents from dying. Oh, and the Rail Tracer, heh...

The 1932 arc follows Eve Genoard, as she searches for her lost brother Dallas.
